Honeywell Acquires Vindicator Technologies

SYOSSET, N.Y.

In its third security acquisition in the past three months,
Honeywell has acquired electronic security system
integrator and developer Vindicator Technologies Inc. Terms
of the deal to acquire the Austin, Texas-based company,
which was founded in 1973, were not disclosed.

Rick Gross, Vindicator’s president, told Security Sales
& Integration
the deal has been in the works for the
past few months after Vindicator shopped around for a
potential buyer. “This is by far the best opportunity. Our
customers get our name and reputation backed by a bigger
organization,” says Gross. “It’s a major step for us. You
go from being an independent, smaller company to a part of
a large organization. But we’ve always run the company like
it’s a bigger company.”
The past three months have seen a flurry of acquisition and
divestment activity by Honeywell for its security division.
Since May, Honeywell has
sold its monitoring
business
, acquired
visitor management system supplier Edgelinx Systems
, HREF=t_ci_newsView.cfm?nid=1632>named Axis Communications
as a key supplier
, and
acquired Genesis Cable
Systems
.

Ben Cornett, Honeywell Security president, said in a
statement the Vindicator acquisition would extend
Honeywell’s range of offerings. “Vindicator has very
specialized technology, strong expertise and products that
protect many of the world’s most critical assets,” Cornett
says.

Vindicator will become part of the Honeywell Access Systems
business unit, and while Honeywell will become the main
branding, the Vindicator name will remain on the product
line descriptions. Vindicator manufactures security systems
that integrate and manage facility access control,
intrusion and perimeter detection, and CCTV. Its products
have been a favorite of sensitive institutions like United
States military facilities, prisons and power plants. The
U.S. government has approved Vindicator products for use in
products requiring Protection Level Nuclear (PL-1)
status.

“It is truly one of those situations that is a triple win
for us, the customers and Honeywell. It increases our
global presence with our foreign language platform and
additional distribution channels,” Gross says. “For
Honeywell, Vindicator provides a high-end product platform –
a platform that has priority level one approvals and a
product line that can talk across any communications
media.”

Gross says Vindicator will also continue to provide
integration and installation services that also include
security assessment, project management, training and
technical support. “We will continue to do higher-end
integration,” Gross says. “We will probably get
stronger.”
