Homeland security expert and decorated U.S. general Barry
McCaffrey will be the keynote speaker at this April’s 2005
ISC West in Las Vegas. The former four-star general, who
once led the nation’s war on drugs, will speak on the war
on terrorism during the 7th Annual Industry Summit April 6
at 8:30 a.m. ISC West will take place from April 6 to 8 at
the Sands Expo and Convention Center.

At the time of his retirement from active duty in January
1996 to take over the drug czar post for President Clinton,
McCaffrey was the most decorated and youngest four-star
general in the U.S. Army. He was twice awarded the nation’s
second highest award for valor – the Distinguished Service
Cross – and received three Purple Heart medals for wounds
received in combat.

McCaffrey saw combat in the Dominican Republic, Vietnam and
Iraq. During Operation Desert Storm, he commanded the 24th
Infantry Division and led the 370-kilometer “left hook”
attack into the Euphrates River Valley.  He also served as
a Joint Chiefs of Staff assistant to Colin Powell and as
commander-in-chief of the U.S. Armed Forces Southern
Command coordinating national security operations in Latin
America.

Currently, McCaffrey is the military analyst for NBC News
and the Olin Distinguished Professor of National Security
Studies at West Point. He also runs a consulting firm that
specializes in international security issues.

Last year, Bernard Kerik
delivered the keynote address at ISC West. Kerik was HREF=t_ci_newsView.cfm?nid=2009>recently considered to lead
the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) but rejected
the post. Other past ISC West speakers have included former
CIA Director Stansfield Turner in 2003 and former Federal
Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) Director James
Lee Witt in 2002.
