NBFAA NAMES SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS; $10,000 AWARDED

MELVILLE, N.Y.

Kimberly Marie Haug of Williamstown, N.J., has been awarded $6,500 for first place and Jennifer Ruckman of Groveland, Calif., has been given $3,500 for second place as winners of the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) Youth Scholarship Award Program. The program provides cash scholarship awards to deserving sons or daughters of police and fire officials based on academic achievements and community involvement.

Haug, the daughter of Joseph Haug, chief ranger of Belleplain State Forest, scored a 1,530 on her SAT, is her school’s valedictorian and a dedicated flutist. She also placed first in the New Jersey Burglar and Fire Alarm Association’s (NJBFAA) third annual scholarship program. “Kimberly not only excels in academics, but wrote an outstanding essay showing her understanding of her father’s important law enforcement role as chief state forest ranger,” says Troy Bonanno, NJBFAA treasurer and scholarship chairman.

Ruckman, the daughter of Lt. George Ruckman of the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department in Sonora, Calif., was the winner of the California Alarm Association’s (CAA) scholarship program as well. She recently graduated from high school with a 4.34 GPA, and has already begun her studies at the University of Southern California (USC) as an early admissions student. “Academically, Jennifer is very strong,” says Frank Burke, CAA scholarship chairman. “She had a 4.34 GPA and the scholarship judging committee specifically noted her excellence in community service.”
