Survey Shows 45 Percent of Homeowners Prefer Homes With Fire Sprinklers

QUINCY, Mass.

A new national poll commissioned by the nonprofit Home Fire
Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) and conducted by Harris
Interactive found that a minority of U.S. homeowners – 45
percent – said they prefer a home with a fire sprinkler
system rather than one without it.

Additional facts uncovered includes the fact that 69
percent of homeowners believe having a fire sprinkler
system increases the value of their home. Also, 38 percent
said they would be more willing to purchase a new home with
sprinklers than one without.

In December, HFSC commissioned the survey of 1,019 U.S.
adults, 620 of which own their own homes. The survey also
revealed that 63 percent of homeowners were aware fire
sprinklers were available for home use. Builders that offer
fire sprinklers in their new homes are seen by 70 percent
of homeowners as concerned about safety, 52 percent see
them as innovative, and 51 percent as simply caring.
Lastly, 39 percent said they would be more likely to hire a
builder that offers fire sprinklers before one that does
not.
