While You’re Watching the 2016 Olympics, These Balloons Are Watching Over Rio

Four balloons take three photos of Rio per second. The technology was developed by Logos Technologies.

The Rio 2016 Olympics are nearly a week old, and as the world stays tuned to the action, Logos Technologies is keeping its attention on security.

From balloons.

Four balloons carry high tech cameras that will monitor Rio throughout the games. The cameras, called Simera, take three photos of the entire city per second, according to Marketplace.

The technology is not able to use facial recognition or license plate number readings yet, but Simera is able to sync with security cameras on the ground to get a better look at suspicious activity.

Logos has an $8 million contract with Rio.
