Paul Garms, director of regional marketing, video systems, for Bosch Security and Safety Systems in North America recently talked to SSI about the company’s plans for ISC West 2024 (booth #11053), scheduled for April 9-12 at the Venetian Convention and Expo Center.

What is a leading product or offering that your company is showing off at ISC West this year? What makes it unique or special?

Garms: At ISC West, Bosch is highlighting solutions using visual and audio intelligence to enhance security, safety, and operations across industries, including energy and utilities, education, smart cities, and more.

For example, our Gun Detection System is the first to pair video and audio AI for a multi-layered approach designed to detect guns at schools. When a person brandishing a gun approaches a school entrance, two Flexidome 5100i cameras with Intelligent Video Analytics Pro (IVA Pro) Visual Gun Detection are designed to promptly alert personnel.

If a gun is not visually detected, the second layer – a Flexidome panoramic 5100i camera with Intelligent Audio Analytics – is designed to detect and classify gunshots while accurately estimating the direction from which they originate. The near-invisible camera-based system improves safety while offering a frictionless flow and welcoming atmosphere to promote learning.

Are there any other products or offerings that Bosch would like to highlight?

Garms: Our latest cameras demonstrated at the show come with AI built-in and are suited for buildings that range from commercial to high-security locations. At ISC West, visitors will see the Flexidome micro 3100i dome camera with a discreet and compact design and the Dinion 3100i IR bullet camera, ideal for outdoor applications requiring a compact yet noticeable deterrent.

The Dinion 5100i IR bullet camera ensures outdoor detection day and night with high image quality in low light and long-range infrared illumination. The Flexidome corner 7100i IR camera supports monitoring in enclosed spaces with a wide field of view without blind spots, excellent image quality in low light with invisible IR, and privacy masking for sensitive areas. Each camera comes pre-installed with IVA Pro Buildings that provides advanced intrusion detection in and around buildings.

What else is new or noteworthy about your company for 2024?

Garms: AI is also improving safety in cities, enabling our cameras to extend beyond monitoring to serve as sensors that help keep vehicle and pedestrian traffic flowing efficiently with automated incident detection and alerts. By streaming metadata, these intelligent sensors equip planners and engineers with information to make data-driven decisions that enhance safety.

Our new IQsight Data Fusion cloud-based service that we are introducing this year transforms camera metadata into organized data for users to generate visual insights that support decision-making. Empowering them to harness the power of video data, it offers interactive dashboards with actionable information, options for exporting data in common formats, and direct API access for easy integration with common visualization tools for more advanced analysis.

A versatile tool for smart cities and other industries – such as education and energy and utilities – it eliminates the need for costly data architects or added hardware for analysis.

What is Bosch’s overall value proposition for security dealers/integrators? Why should they do business with you?

Garms: We offer high quality intelligent products backed by excellent service and support and aim for the highest levels of cybersecurity in our video devices. As a result, our cameras are certified to UL 2900-2-3 Level 2 cybersecurity standards, demonstrating our commitment to providing customers with reliable video security systems.

With our application-specific analytics, we enable integrators to create smart, customized solutions that improve security and safety and help to capture data for informed decision-making. Our AI-driven video systems support users in understanding their environment more deeply so they can respond proactively to situations, which minimizes risks and potential damages — giving them the ability to know what’s next. These capabilities are creating new possibilities for integrators to grow their businesses.

What do you see as some of the top opportunities in the marketplace right now?

Garms: AI is driving advancements in where and how analytics can detect risks, alert to situations that need attention, and capture data about a location. Application-specific analytics are making it easier for integrators to apply this technology to solve challenges in markets that are increasing spending on these solutions – creating opportunities for growth.

AI-driven analytics are expanding possibilities in the education, energy and utility, and traffic and smart city industries. With analyst and advisory firm Omdia forecasting U.S. compound annual growth rates for video surveillance equipment through 2027 of 11.1% for education and traffic monitoring, 9.5% for energy and utilities, and 17.3% for city surveillance, these sectors are ideal focus areas for integrators.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Garms: At ISC West, we will display solutions for these growing industries in our booth, giving integrators the opportunity to experience how Bosch products work together to make systems more effective.

For example, booth visitors will see solutions for detecting and deterring perimeter breaches at energy and utility sites. Bosch cameras with IVA Pro Perimeter provide long-range, accurate detection of people or objects, including intruders who crawl or hide in tall grass.

Once detected, the analytics triggers a Bosch Mic moving camera to pan, tilt, and zoom to the object’s location and track its movements with IVA Pro Intelligent Tracking. Simultaneously, the detection turns on the camera’s white light illuminator and triggers an IP horn loudspeaker to play a message, informing the intruder that they are under surveillance. This automated solution helps to deter damage or theft.
