Snap One Expands Security Line With New Luma NVRs, VMS Platform

Snap One unveils Luma 420 and 820 Series NVRs with enhanced storage and the free Luma View VMS for live viewing of up to 256 cameras.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Adding more Luma NVRs to its lineup, Snap One has launched its new Luma 420 Series and 820 Series network video recorders (NVRs), offering dealers 16-channel and 32-channel NVR options with enhanced processing and up to 144 TB of storage.

The global company states these products can be used for large residential and commercial projects. Derek Webb, Snap One product manager for VSaaS and Intrusion, says the launch coincides with the release of the new Luma View Video Management System (VMS), a free software platform that provides Partners and end-users live viewing and playback of up to 256 cameras across multiple physical locations.

“With the immediate availability of the Luma 420 Series and 820 Series NVRs, Snap One Partners can confidently spec and deploy Luma Surveillance systems for any size job including commercial projects across multiple properties,” says Marlon Lau, product manager for surveillance at Snap One. “The Luma ecosystem can now be easily deployed to manage large properties and multi-site businesses while providing consolidated access to live or recorded footage from up to 256 individual cameras. With instant viewing access available to both Partners and end-users through any browser or via the Luma View app, Luma provides peace of mind at the touch of a button.”

Breaking down the new Luma NVRs in greater detail, the new Luma 420 Series NVR expands on the x20 line to offer 160 Mbps of bandwidth, along with four HDD bays that support up to 18TB drives, 16-channel recording, and support for 12MP cameras. The Luma 820 Series NVR goes even further by upgrading the processing power and incoming and outgoing bandwidth to 196Mbps, as well as the storage capacity to eight 18TB bays, and the total number of input channels to 32. Snap One points out that like all Luma x20 NVRs, each new model offers 4K HDMI output, intelligent analytics capabilities, long-distance PoE with Cat6 cabling up to 200m and NDAA-compliance.

Luma NVRs are Customizable to Facilitate Luma and VMS Packages for Enhanced Surveillance

Snap One says that dealers can build out Luma NVRs through specific configurations for each job using the 420 Series’ 8TB, 12TB or No Hard Drive packages, as well as the 820 Series’ 12TB, 24TB and No Hard Drive packages. The packages with pre-installed storage offer rapid deployment and standardization for multi-site needs while the No Hard Drive packages provide greater customization and maximized HDD storage potential. Third-party drivers are supported.

Snap One recommends using Western Digital Purple Drivers with its Luma NVRs as they are designed specifically for surveillance. Each NVR features dual ethernet ports for backup connections to protect against network outages or failures, as well as dual HDMI ports that allow for two separate configurable views on different monitors.

“The new Luma View VMS empowers Partners and end-users to exercise real time visibility and control for multi-site camera networks, including live feeds, NVR storage and standalone cameras that store video on internal SD cards,” comments Webb. “The ability to remotely control basic camera and NVR settings provides additional value and ensures trust in the entire system’s performance and reliability, making it an excellent surveillance solution for all but the largest commercial projects.”

Snap One also emphasizes the free Luma View VMS software provides a single PC-based interface where users can connect and view up to 256 channel feeds, including live inputs and recordings from various cameras and NVR models. Snap One adds that dealers and end-users can use Luma View VMS to set each camera’s image, recording schedule or password settings. The software is available immediately for Windows operating systems.
