Carbon monoxide (CO) is a leading cause of unintentional poisoning deaths in the United States. Each year, nonfire-related CO poisoning is responsible for about 15,000 emergency department visits and nearly 500 deaths, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
