8 Smart Home Devices and Integrations From ISC East 2017

NEW YORK CITY — ISC East saw tremendous growth for its 2017 iteration. Literally.
The annual trade show outgrew last year’s space and had to move to a larger exhibit hall thanks to the 70+ new exhibitors at this year’s ISC East. Over 7,000 security professionals packed the show floor over two days, making the extra space more than welcomed.
Every exhibitor I spoke to had nothing but positive things to say about this year’s show. I look forward to seeing how it evolves even further for the 2018 edition.
With all the recent DIY-related news coming out these past months, I decided to trek the show floor in search of home automation products and smart home devices that intersect with the security world.
Whether or not security pros like it, the future is all about home automation and integration. End users want to be able to control everything from their phone. It’s time for pros to embrace smart home technology.
The following slideshow contains a variety of devices that can be integrated with security systems or products. Pros need to start thinking about how they can sell value-added services.
One booth I came across was FloLogic, which is a smart leak control system that integrates with security systems. If you’re installing a security system in a residential business, why wouldn’t you offer something like this?
Nest, who just released their own DIY security system, now integrates its cameras with multiple video verification solutions. There may be more and more DIY products coming out, but the lines between professional and DIY are somewhat blurry. It’s up to security pros to utilize whats out there and turn it into profit.
