Physical Security Pros, End Users to Discuss Business Trends, Other Topics With Experts at ISC East

Security integrators, dealers and installers will view the latest technologies, products and services in New York City.

For a legal perspective, industry attorney Wendy Carlisle will present “The Seven Deadly Sins of Alarm Contracts,” also on Nov. 18 (11:40 a.m.-12:30 p.m.). Carlisle will discuss a recent law case that changed the way contracts are interpreted. She’ll also provide real-world examples of good and bad contracts, and how installing security contractors can differentiate between the two. Along with a Q&A portion to the session, participants will receive a checklist-styled cheat sheet for alarm contract essentials.

“One common error is failure to comply with the FTC’s Cooling-Off Rule, which gives a consumer three days to cancel a sale. There seems to be a widespread belief in the industry that this rule only applies to the door-knocker sales model,” Carlisle tells SSI. “That’s not true. Many companies are making themselves vulnerable by failing to follow this FTC rule in their contracts.” 

SIA Education@ISC coursework qualifies for continuing education (CE) hours with several industry accreditation bodies, including ALOA education credits (AEU), ASIS Int’l continuing professional education credits (CPE) and NICET continuing professional development points (CPD). Certificates of attendance will be distributed after the show. Participants can use the document to self-report their education hours to those industry bodies that award CE and professional development credit.
