Snap One Luma X20 Cameras Get Enhanced Security, Privacy

Snap One is stepping up its security and privacy of the Luma X20 family of residential and commercial surveillance cameras by giving users full control over an AV integrator’s access to viewing live video and recordings via a customer handoff feature.

The enhanced security and privacy feature provides “enhanced user control after initial installation, enabling total privacy for the owners while also making it easy to reinstate integrator access when maintenance or assistance is required,” according to the company announcement. All users of the Luma x20 now have this capability, the announcement says.

The new customer handoff feature offers “absolute privacy” for camera feeds and recordings, says Snap One product manager Derek Webb in the company announcement, and notifications and integrator access are controlled through the OvrC remote system management platform.

For troubleshooting needs, clients can still give their integrator temporary access, he says.

Why Luma X20 Cameras Have Customer Handoffs

Removing integrator access to video helps ensure there is no misuse of the data, and there is no off-site transmission of the video without the owners’ knowledge, according to the Snap One announcement.

Once a Luma x20 installation is complete, integrators can send the client a message through the OvrC platform that the client can click through to gain full control in five minutes.

There is no assistance required, no passwords to remember and no port forwarding involved, according to the company announcement.

When an integrator needs access, they send a request to the client via OvrC, giving the customer the option to grant access or not. There is also an option to set a timer for integrator access that automatically reverts back to owner-only access after a set time period.

The NDAA-compliant Luma X20 family is the first Luma product line to include full OvrC integration that helps simplify processes and client calls for integrators.

Snap One launched the Luma X20 series last year along with a Luma View app that features AI-filtered events, saving and sharing clips, the ability to scrub synchronized event footage, AI-enabled human and vehicle detection and more.

In addition, the company says the Luma X20 NVRs now offer commercial customers and large homes with up to 14 terabytes of storage per hard drive bay.
