Consult 2018 Spotlights Top of Mind Security Consulting Challenges
The 2nd annual SecuritySpecifiers Technical Security Symposium attracted about 200 of the security industry’s leading design consultants.

NASHVILLE — I am in the Music City to participate in Consult 2018, a highly focused technical security consulting symposium. This year marks the second anniversary of the event — aka the SecuritySpecifiers Technical Security Symposium — with about 200 people in attendance.
This second Consult symposium for the security consulting ecosystem was conceived and executed very smoothly by Ray Coulombe and his family, friends and professional associates. With so many security events screaming for our time, attention and money, the attendance and participation here is outstanding and worth the decision to make room in my schedule.
It was readily evident that the quality, experience and knowledge horsepower of security consultants are here at Consult 2018.
A very elegant surprise was the recognition of consultants’ spouses and their sacrifices to support their road warriors with an exceptional program just for them. This was very thoughtful and just a smart way to deepen everyone’s relationships. Bloody Mary Brunch, Ryman Auditorium tour, dinner cruise, historical site visits, shopping and wine tasting comprised some of the planned events.
A keynote presentation on “Profiling Humans From Their Voice” by Dr. Rita Singh of Carnegie Mellon University’s Language Technologies Institute enlightened us on the depth and complexity of what a person’s voice and audio carries with it. The ability to profile and describe an individual with startling clarity is most impressive.
The conference invited a pool party of diverse talent and experienced consultants with leading manufacturers in an improved “speed dating” activity, panel discussions and specific mini roadmap tracts around individual interests. This format gave me great flexibility in using my time and pursuing discussions I was really interested in to learn new perspectives.
Kudos to the event manufacturers, PSA Security Network and Security Industry Association (SIA) sponsors that make these events financially possible and bring our ecosystem closer to solve security problems.
The best part of attending Consult 2018 for me personally — since I did not have to prepare, speak or present — I could just absorb the entire event experience.
SecuritySpecifiers Founder Ray Coulombe is a thought-leader and in his own right a force of nature in our industry. Homerun my friend!
