Sciens Building Solutions Acquires Empire Electric and Empire Fire Safety

Huron Capital formed Sciens in 2016 to pursue a buy-and-build investment strategy in the fire detection and integrated solutions sector.

DETROIT — Sciens Building Solutions has acquired Empire Electric and its fire alarm division, Empire Fire Safety, both based in Miami, for undisclosed terms.

Founded in 1988 by Tony Hernandez, Empire Electric provides electrical installation, telecommunication and maintenance services to corporations, municipalities and other government entities.  The company staffs estimators, project managers, supervisors and field employees.

Established in 2006, Empire Fire Safety provides consultancy, installation, equipment sales and maintenance services. The company serves commercial, industrial, corporate and residential customers.

The transaction is the most recent acquisition since Huron Capital formed Sciens in 2016 to pursue a buy-and-build investment strategy in the fire detection and integrated solutions sector. The acquisition further increases the company’s presence in Florida and provides Empire and its customers with deeper resources and expertise, according to an announcement.

“Sciens’ strong technical expertise and suite of comprehensive building solutions combined with our outstanding capabilities will allow us to develop broader offerings for the market,” states Hernandez, president of Empire, who will remain in his current role with the company. “We are excited to grow together and looking forward to continuing to provide excellent customer service to our current and new clients.”

Empire staffs more than 100 highly qualified, experienced employees earning the company a reputation as one of South Florida’s most competitive fire safety and electrical service providers. Empire has also earned numerous business awards, including being named one of South Florida Business Journal’s fastest growing companies in 2017.

“We believe Empire is a great addition to the Sciens platform in a very important market,” says Sciens CEO Terry Heath. “Combined with our existing footprint in Florida, we can now easily serve customers throughout the entire state providing an unparalleled level of local service.”

Empire has a history of maintaining and growing long-term relationships with its customers and is expected to serve as a strong foundation for future growth in Florida as Sciens ramps up its business development efforts, explains Huron Capital Vice President Danielle Lalli.

“We plan to look for partnerships with additional companies similar to Empire that align with Sciens’ values and service offerings as we continue to build the business into a larger player in the fire detection and integrated solutions sector,” Lalli says.
