Home automation, smart home and DIY security news once again dominated the news cycle on SSI online. If this isn’t a sign of change for the industry, I don’t know what is.
The saga of Ring vs. ADT has come to a conclusion, at least for now. Ring sent a letter to customers who pre-ordered their ‘Protect’ home automation and security system explaining why they were being refunded and stated that a new version of Ring Protect will be released in the coming months.
Honeywell is the latest, and somewhat surprising, company to dip its toe into DIY waters with the release of its smart home security system. The company made the unique decision to launch the product on Indiegogo, a crowdfunding site. The company hopes to get feedback from early adopters before making the product available to the pro channel sometime next year.
In DIY security news that doesn’t actually involve security, SimpliSafe found itself in hot water over a bed bug infestation at its Boston call center. The incident resulted in several disgruntled employees being suspended with pay.
