The most popular security news, articles, features and events you may have missed from the month of August on SSI online.
This past August featured news from some pretty big names in the security industry. The story that received the most buzz by far was the banning of Hikvision, Dahua and other Chinese government-backed tech companies from being used by U.S. government agencies.
Along with the Dahua- and Hikvision-branded equipment portfolios, each company’s extensive OEM or white label agreements also fall under the technology ban, along with any other vendors that use the company’s equipment.
Retail giant Best Buy lands on this month’s top 10 list twice. Vivint began opening smart home stores in Best Buys around the country early last year. However, they have called it quits with Best Buy less than two years later.
Conversely, Best Buy acquired PERS company GreatCall in August. Could the retailer have dumped Vivint because its looking to create its own branded lineup of home automation devices, or was it strictly for a lack of sales?
