As Sonitrol of Evansville (Ind.) celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, the company has plenty to be proud of, including 3,500 accounts with annual revenue of $4.3 million.

The company has achieved this success through a combination of exceptional customer service, effective sales and marketing techniques, and a strong relationship with its community.

“Being able to talk customers through issues without rolling a truck is a high priority. Customers call regarding saving video footage and operators and office personnel have been trained on how to talk a customer through the process, so a tech is not needed. Customer service is also able to resolve access control issues by asking simple questions to get to the larger issues such as an equipment issues, access rights or authority level,” says Sonitrol of Evansville Operations Manager Christopher Dingman.

Sonitrol of Evansville has implemented a set of standards throughout the organization that includes sales, accounting, installs and service that are intended to make the organization as efficient and profitable as possible.

Sales consultants are responsible for providing system design and site conditions of the building, allowing the project manager and sales manager to properly price the job. The project manager takes responsibility to ensure that the site is ready by communicating any additional needs, electrical-, lift- and IT-related issues.

Sonitrol of Evansville has hosted multiple “Active Threat Lunch and Learn” sessions in 2018 with an Evansville SWAT member providing training for churches, banks and small businesses. Attendees were shown what vulnerabilities to look for in their environment, as well as shown how to find safe spaces in their building should something occur and how to react.

“The training session gave attendees a lot to think about while proving the functionality of cameras and security systems,” says Dingman. “Participants learned both how they can help them in a situation as well as provide valuable intel to police to expedite resolving an active threat situation.”

Community outreach has included food drives, multiple police department sponsorships and charitable race sponsorships. Dingman says these efforts have resulted in better name recognition for Sonitrol of Evansville within the community as well as enhanced its relationship with local police. He also says sales have shown a 25% increase in installation dollars and an 11% increase over 2017 numbers.
