SILVER SPRING, Md.—The Security Industry Association (SIA) recently announced a partnership with AMAG Technology to “enhance education” on the Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP), an access control communications standard “designed to improve security, system efficiency and interoperability across security products,” according to the joint announcement.
“With OSDP rapidly becoming the industry standard among leading developers, expertise in designing, specifying and configuring OSDP systems is increasingly essential for integrators, government and corporate security teams and consultants,” the announcement says.
“All of the leading access, identity and credential companies have adopted OSDP as their primary secure communications protocol,” says Kyle Gordon, executive vice president of global revenue and customer experience at AMAG Technology, in the joint announcement.
“But building the technology is only half the battle: consultants and commercial teams need to know how to lead with it, and technical professionals need to know how to install and commission it correctly. AMAG is proud to be the first manufacturer to make SIA certified OSDP training part of our core curriculum, with participants earning a SIA OSDP Certified badge upon completion, because that’s where the promise of OSDP is actually realized,” he says.
What’s in the SIA-AMAG OSDP Training Program?
This collaboration introduces “a comprehensive, tiered educational program aimed at equipping sales and marketing professionals with a solid foundation in OSDP, highlighting its advantages over legacy protocols like Wiegand, including improved cost-efficiency, security, and interoperability,” the joint announcement says.
Additionally, installers and operators “will benefit from hands-on training covering device setup, configuration and troubleshooting through combined AMAG technical courses and the SIA OSDP Boot Camp,” according to the announcement.
Together, SIA and AMAG Technology “are committed to preparing security professionals to confidently educate customers on the benefits of OSDP and smoothly guide them through system upgrades, fostering safer and more interoperable security environments,” the joint announcement says.
“Expanding OSDP technical education is crucial for the security industry’s future,” says Dr. Elli Reges, director of learning and development for SIA and executive director for the Foundation for Advancing Security Talent (FAST), in the announcement.
“This partnership will play a vital role in reaching end-users directly, ensuring they not only understand the benefits of OSDP but also have the hands-on knowledge needed to install and maintain systems effectively,” she says. “By empowering all stakeholders with the right skills, we’re helping to build safer, more reliable access control solutions for everyone.”
This partnership “will support the industry in meeting the increasing demands of organizations seeking advanced security technologies, offering access to essential knowledge, resources and training to help teams understand and implement OSDP effectively,” according to the joint announcement.
“By building the skills needed to transition from legacy access control systems, professionals will be better positioned to adopt modern technologies and contribute to raising security standards throughout the industry,” the announcement says.
